 Brownie

Beautiful, curious, and untrusting best describe our Brownie. When a group of Springer Spaniel breeders lost their licenses in the state of Wisconsin, they abandoned their bred dogs. Locked in a barn (not ours), these dogs multiplied- quickly. Brownie was one of 40 adult Springer Spaniels rescued from that barn in 2015. Each one had their own challenges to overcome. They were all individuals. Brownie was a younger dog, and after arriving at HEA, she was adopted into a loving home. When the well-meaning father tried to play with her, she misread his behavior and reacted very inappropriately. While that happened the same year she was rescued, Brownie is still incredibly timid when it comes to human interaction, and she doesn’t care to be directly handled.

Of the 40 adult Springer Spaniels, 38 have been successfully adopted, one is currently in long-term foster care, and then there’s Brownie. Her home is the Sanctuary. It’s a place where she enjoys the companionship of her suitemate – a large hound named Rainy. Our courteous care team understands Brownie’s emotional limitations. We continue to work with her to try and help her unpack her past. Although she doesn’t like to be crowded, when she’s in the caretaker’s house for a visit, she’ll happily follow them around.

We’re grateful to generous sponsors that support the mission of the Sanctuary. Happily Ever After gives dogs like Brownie, who suffer from previous trauma and social anxiety, a haven to enjoy life. When a set of circumstances has failed them in the past, our devoted HEA family works even harder to ensure our animals will never know fear or heartache again.

When you choose this special gift option, you’ll have the pride of knowing that you just changed a life! Thank you for helping HEA continue to provide endless love to special pets, like our beautiful Brownie!
