GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) There's been a steady stream of vehicles heading to Texas, but on Wednesday the role was reversed as members with "Happily Ever After" pet shelter prepared to receive some precious cargo.
About 25 dogs and five cats were dropped off Wednesday night.
Over the past couple of weeks, there has been dramatic rescues of animals from the flooded waters in Texas.
To make room for those pets hoping to be reunited with their owners, the shelters had to find new homes for the shelter pets they were already caring for.
That's where local animal shelters, like Happily Ever After, stepped in to help.
"It's really important in animal welfare to make sure we are taking care of everybody. We want to make sure we are getting animals into homes, no mater where they come from. But right now, down in Texas area and Florida area, help is really needed to get those animals out of that environment and into a safe place so we want to try to provide that for them," said Amanda Reitz, founder of Happily Ever After.
The dogs and cats that were taken off the vehicle were put in an isolated area to get a chance to calm down and relax from such a long drive.
The truck that brought the animals to Happily Ever After will go back to flood impacted areas with cages, blankets, and food for other animals.
