Locating a lost pet
It’s estimated that one in three pets will be lost at some point during their life. Pet owner’s find themselves feeling completely helpless when this happens. The resources below are designed to give you a go-to source in the event your pet would go missing.
- Contact agencies that can help
- If the pet was adopted from HEA, contact us to let us know the animal is missing.
- Let your pet’s microchip provider know that your pet is missing.
- Contact your local police department (non-emergency number), local veterinary clinics, animal control agencies, shelters/rescues, and agencies that are established for the purpose of helping lost pets.
- Use social media

If you find a pet:
- Check the pet for a license or ID
- If there is no ID, take the pet to a veterinary clinic, shelter, or local police/animal control to see if it has a microchip that can be used to find its owner.
- Contact agencies that can help
- Call the local animal control or non-emergency police number to report that you have found a pet.
- Call the local humane agencies to complete a found pet report.
- If you are close to another municipality, call the animal control or non-emergency police number in that municipality to alert them as well.
