Our work and Impact
As we provide both temporary and lifetime care to companion animals, these five pillars guide the success of our mission:
AdoptionWhen you adopt a pet, you save a life. Every animal adopted from HEA allows us to care for even more cats and dogs and place them into loving homes. Since 2006, we’ve paired more than 6,000 animals with their forever families.
We believe in lifetime commitments. When you adopt you become a part of our family. We’re here for you and the newest member of your family. We’re passionate about forever, and you can count on us to provide ongoing support.

EducationWe are committed to continuously learning and growing in order to provide the very best path for our cats and dogs. By attending conferences, actively networking with other animal welfare professionals, collaborating with other nonprofit organizations, and engaging with the business community, we grow in our capacity to serve animals and their families.
As we learn and grow, we promise to share our knowledge with those we serve. We know how important education is to the well-being of animals and their families. We provide educational programming and outreach to ensure healthy and happy lives for you, your pet, and all companion animals. |
Spay/NeuterIn addition to spaying or neutering all of our adoptable animals, we provide a low-cost spay/neuter program for families in need. By offering a low-cost alternative, our desire is to provide an important service for our community and our local animals. Since our founding, we’ve helped spay/neuter over 9,000 animals through this program. Learn more.

RehabilitationPut simply, it’s the gift of time. Sometimes attention and space are all that companions need to rebuild or establish trust in people. Often there’s something in their past that needs to be worked through. Patience, understanding, and years of experience, make rehabilitation possible. When rehabilitation is required, most others would have already given up on them—but we won’t. We give each and every animal a fresh start, along with the love and resources they need to live a safe, happy, and full life.

SanctuaryA place of safety. When our four-legged companions require lifetime care, we’re here to ensure they’re loved with no timetables, because that’s what forever means. These dogs and cats are part of our family and their lives matter. We give them what they need the most, unconditional love and a place they can call home.
